Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay is a marine preserve formed within a volcanic crater, creating one of the most unique snorkeling experiences in the world. The bay's protected status means fish are abundant and unafraid—you'll swim among schools of colorful parrotfish, butterflyfish, tangs, and the occasional sea turtle. Before entering the water, all visitors must watch a short conservation video, reinforcing the bay's commitment to protecting its delicate ecosystem. The crescent-shaped beach is small but stunningly beautiful, framed by volcanic rock walls. Arrive early—the bay limits daily visitors and often closes to new arrivals by late morning. Despite the crowds, the underwater experience is truly magical.
