About Hapuna Beach
Hapuna Beach on Hawaii's Big Island regularly tops lists of the world's best beaches, and for good reason. The half-mile crescent of golden sand is one of the largest white sand beaches on the island, set against a backdrop of impossibly blue Pacific waters and the volcanic slopes of Mauna Kea. The beach is part of Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, which means lifeguards, showers, and facilities are available year-round. Summer brings calm, crystal-clear conditions perfect for swimming and snorkeling, while winter swells create waves that attract bodyboarders and bodysurfers. The underwater visibility often exceeds 100 feet, and sea turtles are regular visitors. A-frames at the south end of the beach provide picnic shade. The nearby Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Westin Hapuna offer resort conveniences while the beach remains publicly accessible to all.
